Petra Onderuf Quartet

Slovak jazz violinist and composer Petra Onderuf combines musical traditions in distinctive ways, expanding the language of jazz through rhythmic and melodic influences from world music. Rooted in jazz harmony and improvisation, her eclectic violin style bridges classical music and jazz, creating compositions that captivate with earthy rhythms and floating textures while radiating vibrant energy.

Her latest album, An Odd Time of Day, features her original compositions, blending asymmetric rhythms with folk influences from around the world. Recorded with acclaimed Slovenian musicians Rok Zalokar (piano), Luka Dobnikar (double bass), and Aleš Zorec (drums), alongside guests Jure Pukl (soprano saxophone) and Gašper Selko (trumpet), the album showcases her dynamic approach to contemporary ECM-inspired jazz and ethno-jazz fusion.

The album received excellent reviews both internationally and at home and was named among the ten best jazz albums of 2025 by the British magazine Jazzviews as well as the platforms Hudba.sk and Skjazz.sk.
